Gaps Solitaire, also known by several other names including Spaces Solitaire, Addiction Solitaire, Montana Solitaire, and Vacancies Solitaire, offers a uniquely structured challenge that sets it apart from typical card games.
To begin, the cards are dealt into four neat rows of thirteen, and the four aces are immediately removed and set aside, taking no further part in the game.
From there, the rules are refreshingly straightforward: each empty space in the layout can only be filled by a card that shares the same suit as the card to its left and is exactly one rank higher. Only a two is permitted in the left-most column of any row, while no card is ever allowed to be played to the right of a king, naturally closing off that end of the sequence.
If you find yourself stuck with no moves left, don’t worry – you’re given 3 possible shuffles to reshuffle the layout and try again.
The game is won once all four rows are arranged in perfect sequence from two all the way to king. However, if the game becomes completely blocked and you’ve used up all your shuffles, the game ends in a loss, so use your reshuffles wisely!
