Napoleon’s Tomb Solitaire is played using 2 full decks, creating a grander, more elaborate challenge than typical single-deck games. To set up, 40 cards are dealt into four reserve piles, while 4 additional cards are placed onto the tableau piles to begin play.
As the four Kings of different suits become available throughout the game, they’re moved onto the foundations to get things started. The ultimate goal is to build every card onto the foundations, working downward in suit from King to Ace, and then continuing the cycle by building back up from Ace to King once again.
The top card of each tableau pile, reserve pile, and waste pile is always available for play, whether you’re sending it to a foundation, another tableau pile, or the central reserve pile. Tableau piles themselves can be built upward in suit, and any tableau pile that becomes empty can be refilled with any card you choose, giving you helpful flexibility as you strategize.
There’s also a unique central reserve pile, which can be started with any Ace and then built upward in suit from there. To keep the game moving, you’re given 4 redeals in total — though it’s worth noting that each redeal reduces the number of available waste piles, adding an extra layer of strategy to how and when you use them.
